Did you know that hearing protection and safety glasses are often used together and that not all combinations offer the right protection?
Exposure to noise at work and noise-induced hearing loss are a major problem in workplaces around the world. Hearing protection plays an important role in reducing a person's exposure to noise. To provide adequate protection, hearing protectors must fit properly and be comfortable to wear throughout the working day. In many activities, hearing protectors must be used in combination with other personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses. If these are not compatible, this can compromise protection.

Earmuffs are often used in combination with safety glasses, which can cause interference between the arms of the glasses and the seal of the earmuff cushions. This can result in reduced noise attenuation. In a scientific study, 3M investigated the change in attenuation when different styles of 3M™ Eye Protection (safety spectacles) are worn in combination with different 3M™ PELTOR™ Earmuffs. See the study and results below.
